About us

The GOAA Foundation, founded in memory of the late General Owoye Andrew Azazi, is a dedicated non-profit organization focused on providing educational scholarships to underprivileged children in the Niger Delta region. General Azazi, who rose from humble beginnings to become a prominent figure, believed deeply in the transformative power of education. His legacy inspires our mission to break the cycle of poverty and give hope to future generations through access to quality education.

Our foundation understands that education is a cornerstone of development and empowerment. By addressing financial barriers, we aim to provide bright, motivated children with the resources they need to pursue their academic dreams and achieve their full potential. Through our scholarships, we support not only individual growth but also the broader development of the Niger Delta, fostering a community of educated, empowered citizens who can drive positive change.

Our Mission

Our mission at the GOAA Foundation is to honor the legacy of General Owoye Andrew Azazi by providing scholarships to underprivileged children in the Niger Delta. We are committed to:

– Enabling access to quality education for children from low-income families.

– Supporting academic excellence and personal development.

– Cultivating future leaders who can contribute positively to their communities.

– Promoting the values of perseverance, resilience, and dedication that General Azazi exemplified.

We believe that every child, regardless of their background, deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. By investing in education, we strive to create a more equitable and prosperous society.

Our Vision

Our vision at the GOAA Foundation is to create a world where every child in the Niger Delta has the opportunity to receive a quality education, unlocking their potential and enabling them to achieve their dreams. We envision a future where:

Educational opportunities are accessible to all, regardless of socio-economic status.

Our Story

Late General Owoye Andrew Azazi was born in Peretorugbene, modern day Bayelsa State on the 1st of February 1952.

In a military career spanning over thirty six years, General Azazi rose through the ranks to become, at various times, the Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence (deputy CDI), Director of Military Intelligence (DMI), General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division Kaduna; the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). On the 4th of October 2010, President Goodluck Jonathan appointed him the National Security Adviser, a post he held till July 2012.

His military career is blessed with extraordinary milestones inspired by an unrelenting pursuit of his dreams. Indeed, he is credited with having one of the fastest growing military careers in the history of present-day democratic Nigeria having worn the ranks of Major General, Lieutenant General and General between May 2006 and June 2007.General Azazi believed in the power of dreams, in youths and the possibilities embedded in every youth. During his lifetime, he devoted his resources and goodwill towards ensuring that youths, especially those from the Niger Delta, had access to the necessary skills and education they needed to become leaders in their respective careers. General Azazi was a symbol of inspiration to these youths majority of whom had benefitted from his numerous philanthropic gestures and fatherly motivation.

In continuing with the late General’s ideals and beliefs, his family decided to perpetuate his legacies via the General Owoye Andrew Azazi Foundation (GOAAF). General Azazi embodied the boundless possibilities inherent in every youth in our society; at GOAAF, we acknowledge the strength of character and can-do spirit that aided the Late General’s ascent. We are also conscious of the fact that his inspiring story would have been impossible without the support he got from various people who were there for him while growing up.

At GOAAF, we firmly uphold the belief that a society thrives when its youths are well educated, enlightened and empowered. In line with this belief, we are committed to ensuring that disadvantaged, less-privileged children and youths especially from the Niger Delta region are empowered to become the best they can be in order to aid the economic and socio-political growth of our dear country, Nigeria.
Through GOAAF, we are dedicated to preserving the legacy of General Owoye Andrew Azazi, ensuring that his memory remains vibrant and impactful. As a respected leader and visionary, He left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of many. Our intention is to honor his contributions, not only through remembrance but also through action. By continuing his work and embodying the values he championed—integrity, dedication, and service—we aim to carry forward his legacy in a meaningful and enduring manner. Through various initiatives, educational programs, and community engagements, GOAAF seeks to perpetuate General Azazi’s ideals, inspiring present and future generations to emulate his example and strive for excellence in all endeavors.
